Sympathetic Joy: Small Story
When the heart is open as open can be, you feel joy the moment you see another feel joy.
This happened randomly at the strand while I was chilling in a straddle seated pose, and I saw some guy holding his daughter by an arm and a leg, laughing as he dangled her near the dog and made the dog chase. They were all laughing hysterically, lol. It made me laugh and even brought a small tear to my eye.
There may be many times I wouldnt have such a reaction. But when you feel clean and clear, happy in the moment, the heart opens more to the various joys and pains of others.
I guess this is what the Buddhists call compassion, or sympathetic joy. We may not always be in this state, but it’s a nice direction to move toward.
