The Productive Monk Technique
This is a method for boosting productivity, creativity, and overall health. Do this method before each productive/creative activity.
The method has three main steps.
Step 1: Small Physical Movement Session Step 2: Active Relaxation Step 2: Choose Your Own Activity
Let us elaborate and expound on each step briefly.
Step 1: Small Physical Movement Session. Do movement/physical exercise for a brief period of time, say 1 minute to 20 minutes, practicing your chosen movement style, whether yoga, dance, martial arts, running, or strength exercise. The intention here is not to exhaust our body and mind. Rather, we are mildly revving up the engine and priming the circuitry. We are engaging our physiology, neurology, mind heart and soul in a physical activity. Our system is stimulated, up-regulated, and primed. We have an increase in our whole system, including heart rate, breathing and oxygenation, body temperature, circulation, arousal, and alertness. We are ready for step 2 of the process.
Step 2: Active Relaxation. This step is where you rest for a brief period, say 1 minute or 20 minutes. You find a comfortable posture to rest in, whether sitting, standing, or lying down. This is where you actively relax your system: Body, mind, heart, and spirit.
Consciously letting go. Unwinding. Opening. Relaxing. Grounding. Feeling. Sensing. No Effort Required. Yet still Present and Aware. Still able to Focus. Yet no effort required. We are relaxed, present, comfortable and open, in body mind heart and spirit.
Step 3: Choose Your Own Activity. This is where you enter your chosen productive/creative activity. It can be any activity from your professional life, personal life, or self-development. As you begin the task, you are in an optimal state of consciousness. Thanks to our previous two steps. You now are energetic and alert, yet relaxed and open, while being focused, creative, and friendly. Your neurochemistry and physiology has been jacked up and optimized, due to our practice of conscious physical exercise followed by conscious relaxation.
You are now ready to be a productive/creative ninja.
